Houston Texans, AFC South Champs!

Houston has been waiting for this… we’ve been waiting for this since NFL football returned to this city. For years the Houston Texans have been flirting with “getting over the hump” or “taking that next step” in becoming a winning football team, breaking our hearts season after disappointing season. All of that changed with one clutch, game winning 4th quarter drive against the Cincinatti Bengals yesterday afternoon. With yesterday’s come-from-behind win and a loss by division rivals (and former Houston football team, I know… how fitting) the Tennessee Titans, the Texans clinched the AFC South Division and a berth in the NFL playoffs for the first time in their short history.

If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet… jump on! Let’s overload this mutha!

No one is as critical of Houston sports fans as I am but even I will admit that when this city does support our teams — generally when the team is winning and is playoff bound — we are as a fanatical of a fan base as any in the country. See the 2005 Astros World Series run and the Rockets playoff runs a few seasons ago, those arenas were rockin’. Despite great runs from our other sports franchises in Houston, we’re in Texas and this is still and likely always will be, a football town. The Texans are guaranteed to host at least one playoff game at Reliant, I have no doubt our stadium will be one of the loudest stadiums in the playoffs.

On another note, if you have been a Texans fan from the beginning, you have to feel good for Texans star wide receiver, Andre Johnson. Johnson has been with the team since year two and has suffered through more than his fair share of losing. He has been one of the top two or three receivers in the NFL since entering the league and could have easily jumped to another team long ago but he stuck with the Texans. It was a classy move by Coach Kubiak to give yesterday’s game ball to Andre even though he was injured and unable to play in the game, Dre has long deserved it. He’s long made it a personal and team goal to reach the playoffs, let’s all hope he heals in time to play in them!

Houston Texans Division Champs Merchandise

If you’re desperate for Houston Texans Division Champs t-shirts and caps the best place to grab some merchandise is the Go Texans Store at Reliant Stadium. As of last night all Academys have sold out of the shirts and hats and will not be receiving another shipment until Tuesday.

Houston Texans Playoff Tickets

You want them, I want them, yeah we all want the hottest tickets in town… playoff tickets! Unfortunately for non-season ticket holders you will have to wait until all the current season ticket holders have purchased their share of the playoff tickets first before getting a crack at buying your own. The Texans will announce the date non-season ticket holders can buy tickets (if any remain) through their Facebook and Twitter channels so keep an eye out for the announcement. That or find yourself a season ticket holder and get them to get you some tickets!
